Liverpool 1-0 Brentford: Reds bag another win and add (some) pressure to top 4 places

It wasn’t pretty, but again Salah scored, and again, Liverpool scrape by with a win.

My favourite part about the goal is the van Dijk header across the box to Salah who bundled it home.

Also noteworthy: the pass to van Dijk was a lofted ball from Fabinho…who continues to display good form after a mostly horrendous year. Dare I say, he’s almost back to his usual self.

Congrats to Mo Salah, who broker another record: Salah is now the first Liverpool player to score in nine successive home games. It’s his 100th goal at Anfield.

Thoughts:

  • The Trent Alexander Arnold midfield experiment is working. Far from figured out…and causes breaks on the other end, but working nonetheless. He looks right at home and continues to show why he is the best passer of English football (as per Gary Lineker, which for my money – I think he meant the best English passer – best passer in English football is Kevin De Bruyne).

  • Ivan Toney is a handful.

  • Liverpool got lucky again. Mbeumo’s fast break goal was marginally offside. Van Dijk and Arnold’s blushes were saved.

  • Speaking of van Dijk…I liked that he attempted that shot from long range (even though it was nowhere close). Shows confidence and I think he could actually score that, I know he has before for Celtic.

  • Nunez is looking…raw. Which is expected. Dude needs to put away one of those chances soon, it’s been a while since he scored, it feels.

  • Luis Diaz has been sorely missed. He also does at least one move every game that leaves you in awe.

  • Curtis Jones: sneakily starts again, and keeps growing game by game.

  • I still think Klopp waits too long for subs. Tsimikas was being readied at the 78’th minute, and didn’t get on until 82nd minute. Just put him in 10 mins earlier Klopp, come on.
